Animals have long been a part of Su’s life: during childhood there were rabbits, guinea pigs, a chinchilla, gerbils, hamsters and mice. These were followed by horses, dogs and cats. There is a door in Su’s heart with Labrador written on it. Other dogs who have also shared her life include: a Boer Bull, a Jill of the Bushveldt (ridgeback-staffie cross) and a Curly Coated Retriever. She has trained dogs for rough shooting, agility and showing.
Su’s philosophy on the business is “To provide facilities that I would be happy to use for my own dogs and cats - and I am fussy.”
Meet Su & Alan
Owner manager, Su Carlin, bought Sunnymead Kennels and Cattery, with husband Alan in 2005. Together they have a wealth of experience gained from owning dogs and cats most of their lives and from working in industry, business and education.
Su holds a BA (Hons) degree in Geography and History and a Diploma in Counselling & Guidance and has successfully completed courses in Dog Handling, Training, Grooming, Animal First Aid, Micro Chip Implanting and Food Hygiene. She is a Kennel Club Affiliate, a Kennel Club Accredited Breeder and is a member of several dog breed clubs, canine societies and working gundog groups. She has competed in canine agility, obedience, showing and working gundog tests.
Alan, an engineer, generally wears the Maintenance Hat at Sunnymead. He has previously been owned by a German Shepherd Dog and several cats. At Sunnymead he is hoping to fulfill his dream to breed British Shorthair cats.
